Since the mid-nineteenth century, the area around Lake Brienz in Switzerland has been noted for the skill of its woodcarvers. Commonly refered to as 'Black Forest' , these woodcarvers produce exceptionally evocative figures from small items like inkwells right up to hall stands. It is one thing to be a skilled wood carver, but something else completely to produce pieces like these.
